Patricia Brinkman-Falter, of Lincoln, Nebraska, is a practicing clinical dental hygienist and certified orofacial myologist. Pat’s passion for her career is contagious. She has a long history of community and dental volunteerism and has held several executive offices for NDHA, including serving as President in 2012-13. She has been a strong advocate for expanding dental hygiene’s scope of practice. She independently influenced the Board of Dentistry to officially declare the practice of Orofacial Myology within the scope of practice of dental hygienists.
During her Presidency she successfully lobbied for the expansion of the Public Health Registered Dental Hygienist bill before the Nebraska Legislature resulting in improved access to care for the underserved in Nebraska. Pat is a well known speaker in Nebraska on dental and orofacial health for professional meetings, universities, dental schools, and community groups. She enjoys transforming into “Trisha Tooth Fairy” for the schools during National Children’s Dental Health Month.
Pat is the recipient of both the component and state Dental Hygienist of the Year in Nebraska, recognized as one of Young Dental’s “Hygienists who have broken barriers within the profession ” and is ADHA’s 2015 winner of the “Irene Newman Award, for the advancement of the art and science of dental hygiene.”
Pat is Nebraska’s first Board Certified Orofacial Myologist through the International Association of Orofacial Myology ( IAOM).
Pat received her Bachelor’s in dental hygiene from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, completed her Masters in Human Resource and Family Science at UNL and obtained her Gerontology certification at Colorado State. In 2008. She obtained her Orofacial Myofunctional educational training at the Academy of Orofacial Myology in Los Angeles, California and completed her Internship at Billings Speech Pathology Services in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She has also received advanced training at Midwest Orofacial Myology in Chicago, IL and at the Coulson Institute of Orofacial Myology in Denver, CO and is additionally certified in parafunctional behavior modification.
She has served on Boards for the IAOM and the Nebraska Rural Health Executive Board and is a past examiner for CRDTS.
She currently serves on the UNMC school of Dentistry’s Dean’s Council and as a delegate to ADHA.
